Gnome Hide and Seek, Fusing Frames @ QUAD

August 29, 2009

So the first Fusing Frames workshops kicked off today in Derby.  It was a chance to talk about the project, share some ideas and introduce ourselves.  Fusing Frames is about you reclaiming the city and having an opportunity to share your ideas of what Derby is now and what it could be in the future and mapping the places hidden from view.

After a quick walk looking at some of the empty shops, derelict buildings of the city and some of the new places that are being built; we played a game of gnome hunt, using a mobile phone with live video stream software Qik.

John, the gnome was hiding in the flower bed in the Market Place, players had to find our gnomey friend using the video to ask for clues and search the area.  This was the mission should you choose to accept it:

Imagine a new city

The Hippodrome, Derby

The Hippodrome, Derby

Tessa made a short film about the Hippodrome on Green Lane that is derelict and unused.  In the past it has been a theatre, a cinema and a bingo hall, now it is just an empty building.  What do you want it to be?  If you could have anything in the city what would it be?  A place to meet?  A venue for bands?  A swimming pool?  Maybe it could be an indoor farm, a new kind of supermarket where you can pick your fruit and veg straight from the trees.  The film will be up on YouTube soon, check back for an update.
