Today we went out and took some small videos of colours, just colours. We each had a colour assigned to us then we had five fun filled minutes t go out and get as many small videos of theses colours as we could. The colours used were Red, green and yellow. Some went as far as to take videos in the middle of roundabouts and roads. You can see the final result of these above. We intend to use this later to try and give parts of the map a mood.
Again, there weren’t many but this was still a productive session with a hell of a lot of tagging on maps. You can see all the videos on the map above or you can go to the youtube channel to see them one by one. They will also soon be uploaded to google earth.

So Tessa’s video about The Hippodrome is now up online, watch it here on the Fusing Frames YouTube channel http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vr60e4q930o or you can watch it on GoogleEarth, where it is tagged to the location.
How to watch on GoogleEarth
1. Download GoogleEarth if you havn’t already got it, follow the link to download and install it http://earth.google.co.uk/download-earth.html
2. Once you have installed GoogleEarth open it up and make sure that the YouTube layer is turned on under the Gallery drop down menu in the sidebar.
3. To watch The Hippodrome video, Search Green Lane, Derby DE1 zoom in and hover over the YouTube icons until you find one called The Hippodrome and sit back and watch. Explore some of the other videos in Derby City whilst you’re there.
*All the videos that we make will be tagged to their location, keep exploring each week to find them on the map.

We resolved to film, edit and upload three videos in the session and we did just that!
Our intrepid crew first journeyed out into the depths of the Milkshake War currently ravishing the city, returning relatively unscathed but changed for life … The beautiful sunshine of the day forced the crew outdoors again – Eastside? Westside? … Riverside! For some impromptu outdoor theatre. Then back to the square to see what it looked liked today [bringing on philosophical musings about what it was on a map versus what might be there on any given day, and we picked a day when the Derby Eye came to town!]. All in all, fruitful, nice weather made it a pleasure to be outside, and we made some good videos. Nice one.

So the first Fusing Frames workshops kicked off today in Derby. It was a chance to talk about the project, share some ideas and introduce ourselves. Fusing Frames is about you reclaiming the city and having an opportunity to share your ideas of what Derby is now and what it could be in the future and mapping the places hidden from view.
After a quick walk looking at some of the empty shops, derelict buildings of the city and some of the new places that are being built; we played a game of gnome hunt, using a mobile phone with live video stream software Qik.
John, the gnome was hiding in the flower bed in the Market Place, players had to find our gnomey friend using the video to ask for clues and search the area. This was the mission should you choose to accept it:

Imagine a new city
The Hippodrome, Derby
Tessa made a short film about the Hippodrome on Green Lane that is derelict and unused. In the past it has been a theatre, a cinema and a bingo hall, now it is just an empty building. What do you want it to be? If you could have anything in the city what would it be? A place to meet? A venue for bands? A swimming pool? Maybe it could be an indoor farm, a new kind of supermarket where you can pick your fruit and veg straight from the trees. The film will be up on YouTube soon, check back for an update.

What does this city mean to you? Reclaim your streets, make something happen.
Fusing Frames is an exciting digital-art workshop, exploring the hidden stories and territories of Derby City. If you could redesign Derby how would it feel? What does the future look like to you? Using the latest in mapping technology, 3D Design, mobile phones and video we want you to create a new virtual map of your city.
Each week we will get out onto the streets of Derby to make films, hide virtual art and explore places that are important to you and the places that are hidden from view. Your films will be made into a new media map that shows Derby city through your eyes.
Workshops
Workshops take place @ QUAD every Saturday between 1100 – 1600. Workshops start on Saturday 29th August 2009.

Greenwich Emotion Map
Christian Nold
Oct 2005 – March 06
A strong example of how GoogleEarth can be used to demonstrate and visualise an artist’s project. GPS tags are pinned on to the emotion maps to describe people’s reactions to certain places and spaces.
6 month artist commission hosted by Independent Photography as part of ‘Peninsula’, a series of artist commissions on the Greenwich Peninsula.
Artist Christian Nold worked with 50 local residents from the Greenwich Peninsula to explore the area afresh and build an emotion map of the area that explores people’s relationship with their local environment.

The project was set up as a series of participatory workshops that invited people to borrow a Bio Mapping device and go for a walk. The device measures the wearer’s Galvanic Skin Response (GSR), which is an indicator of emotional arousal in conjunction with their geographical location. The resulting maps encourage personal reflection on the complex relationship between us, our environment and our fellow citizens. By sharing this information we can construct maps that visualise where we as a community feel stressed and excited.
The printed ‘Greenwich Emotion Map’ is available directly from Independent Photography as well as the ICA, Tate Modern bookshops and some other good artist’s book sellers.
“Will seeing other people’s experiences, allow us to engage differently with our environment?”

From our photographs we noticed that there was an emphasis for us to look down in the city and look at objects on the floor on a micro level. Our landmarks and signs of the city were littered with well lots of photographs of litter a discarded pieces roaming the streets and grasslands. Heres a slice of what we found
TASK: Our identity… Document the area around The New Art Exchange. Take as many photographs as you like that describe this area. Use landmarks, locations and the signs of the city to express the identity of these places.

We undertook a research trip from a planned route through the city to take photographs of the spaces and objects that represent our view of Nottingham. The young people were guided and accompanied by professional artists as we investigated the signs of their city and thus documented their urban life. We wanted to create a map of Nottingham that documents all the signs, logos, symbols and landmarks. Equipped with a GPS, all the images are tagged with location coordinates tht will make up an online interactive map of Nottingham. The idea is to explore the map, track our journeys through the city and discover similarities and differences between the various districts in Nottingham.
